Southwest Trip II

Royal Gorge

We stopped at Royal Gorge to see the bridge - the highest suspension bridge in the history of human beings, or something like that. 1053 ft above the gorge. There is a gorge, and a bridge.

We also stopped along the Arkansas river. Scenic.

The Rockies keep getting closer.

Now that's scenery.

Going up. Rockies are very close now. It was 84 before we started climbing, but there is snow on the ground here.

Still going up...

Finally - Monarch Pass, 11312 ft above sea level. This is also the Continental Divide.

Jim's GPS receiver says his trunk is actually 11323 ft above sea level.

The pass is scenic.

Over the pass, and things are still scenic. Rocks are here.

Trees as well.

Still more snow-capped mountains too.

Curecanti National Recreation Area and Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park area

This area has the road following and crossing water a number of times. Water and rocks.

More water and more rocks.

Rocks and road.

Rocks and water revisited.

Morrow Point resevoir.

The road goes over the water.

It was a windy day so tumbleweeds got caught by the guardrail and accumulated.

NEXT - Dillon Pinnacles
